FOR WHISTLEBLOWING advice 020 7404 6609
Campaigns
We believe that all workers should be able to raise public interest concerns in the workplace, confident that they will be heard and not victimised.
We run campaigns to lobby government to improve the framework for whistleblowing and carry out research into sectors that we have identified as high need from information on our advice line.
Speaking up for vulnerable adults - whistleblowing in the care sector
We are currently running a campaign to better encourage, empower, support and protect workers who speak up in the care sector. We have produced a report based on 1,200 cases we have received from the care sector.
Schools
Recognising that it is important to raise awareness of this subject amongst young people, we have developed teaching materials for a workshop on whistleblowing, which we successfully piloted in schools in 2007.
Open justice
We have long campaigned for public access to details of legal claims taken under the Public Interest Disclosure Act. At present 75% of all claims settle, leaving no information on the public record about the underlying concern to a PIDA claim. Although the High Court has ruled that it is a matter of public interest and open justice that this information be publicly available, regulations have been changed on several occasions to keep secret legal claims from workers who may have been victimised for blowing the whistle on fraud, corruption and threats to health and safety.
In 2010 we persuaded the Government that at the very least, there should be regulatory overisght of claims. However we remain concerned that too many public interest issues are buried in secret in private settlements.
