THE FIRST 100 CAMPAIGN
FIRST SIGNATORIES PUBLISHED
In 2013 the Whistleblowing Commission recommended the introduction of a statutory Code of Practice for whistleblowing arrangements to assist employers, workers and their representatives in addressing whistleblowing concerns. This Code could be taken into account by courts when considering whistleblowing issues, and by regulators when assessing the effectiveness of the whistleblowing arrangements of those that they regulate.
In March 2014 Public Concern at Work launched the First 100 Campaign and began appealing to organisations across all sectors to sign up to the principles of the Code and to be one of the first 100 signatories. Since then we have engaged the support of more than 40 organisations who have agreed to abide by the Code's principles and to work towards compliance with it. These organisations include private sector employers from a wide variety of industries, public sector employers such as local authorities and health boards, charities and regulators.
We are very pleased to champion the organisations who are leading the way in good whistleblowing practice. Those who empower staff to speak up about wrongdoing, and listen to them when they do, promote healthy working practices and protect the public interest. We hope that seeing how the Code of Practice has assisted these organisations will encourage the Government to produce a statutory Code of Practice to improve the effectiveness of whistleblowing arrangements for all.
If you would like more information about the campaign or are interested in becoming a signatory please contact Kushi Gujral on firstname.lastname@example.org or 0203 117 2520. Please note that becoming a signatory does not necessarily mean that you are already complying with the Code in its entirety, rather it signifies your commitment to strive towards best practice over time.
